This is the seal that sits between the glass and the steel frame of the door; it's purpose is to endure that there is no air leakage into the combustion chamber.

If you are installing a replacement glass for your Christon 550 it is essential that you fit it with a new seal or you risk over-running your appliance by allowing excess air into your stove.
